Modernity X Hungary: Bauhaus as seen by Lukas Ligeti

Sunday, August 14, 2016 | 7:00 pm
National Sawdust | 80 North 6th Street, Brooklyn NY
$20 Online | $25 At door | More information and tickets

Lukas Ligeti’s innovative compositional voice is featured in an evening highlighting his work from 1988 to 2016 and the lasting influence of the Bauhaus movement on the composer’s artistic process. Contemporaneous will perform a new work written specifically for the ensemble as well as works for chamber orchestra combining European modernism and African polyrhythms with the spirit of an American maverick experimentalist.

The event is the finale of the Hungarian Cultural Center’s Modernity X Hungary — a festival focusing on the legacy of the great artist/designer László Moholy-Nagy — and coincides with the exhibition, Moholy-Nagy: Future Present, on view at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum this summer. It also marks the beginning of Ligeti’s curatorial activities at National Sawdust.
