Presented by Fordham University as part of their Voices Up! concert series combining new music and poetry, Songs for the Earth is a concert inspired by the grandeur of the natural world and the need to preserve it for future generations. A concert inspired by the grandeur of the natural world and the need to protect and preserve it, now and in the future. The event includes two world premieres: Joshua Groffman's "Lemur" and Lawrence Kramer's "Ecospheres," both for baritone Nathaniel Sullivan and chamber ensemble. Both works set poems from Elisabeth Frost's poetic sequence "Remains," whose title refers both to mortal remains and to what remains of the world we want to keep. Also on the program are compositions by Marcos Balter, Gabriella Smith, and Julius Eastman. Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, 154 W 57th St., New York City. 8 PM, February 28, 2022. $25; $15 for students and retirees.

Songs for the Earth is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature, and by public funds from The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and support from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, New Music USA, Pacific Harmony Foundation, and the Peter S. Reed Foundation.
