Sarah Haines is a New York-based violist and violinist. A new-music enthusiast, Sarah Has worked on many new works of her peers. She is a core member of the ensemble Contemporaneous, as well as their personnel manager. She has performed in numerous performances of new works by friends, classmates, and peers, and is always looking for exciting new music to work on with living, breathing composers.
Sarah has appeared as principal viola of New York Youth Symphony, the Deutsch-Skandinavische Jugend Philharmonie, Chelsea Symphony, and the Freelance Ensemble Artists of New Jersey, where she has also appeared as concertmaster. She is an active chamber musician, and has played in venues throughout the Tri-State Area, the Czech Republic, and Germany. In addition, she has recorded for different producers, arrangers, and songwriters around the city and surrounding area, including Sufjan Stevens, Snoop Dogg, Guards, Jess Clinton, the Matthew Marshal Band, Lorrie Soriza, Lydia Ainsworth, Teen Girl Science Monthly, and the Astor Kings. Sarah is currently singing and playing viola in two different band projects: rock band Emanuel and the fear and the brand new folk project Skies.
In May of 2012, Sarah received a Bachelor of Music from New York University, where she studied viola with Karen Ritscher and Karel Dolezal, and violin with Anton Miller. She is currently Orchestra Manager for the New York Youth Symphony and maintains a small studio of private students. She currently studies with Max Mandel.
